The election to the Local Government council has come and
gone and they people of Edda home and abroad are happy at least it did not
bring any sort of quarrel that could also lead to fight or break down of law.
So it is believed it was peaceful. As usual, it is also believed that there’ll
be no election without the people and we ask the elected officers to please be
at their duty post at all times.
In detail, you are elected for service. The initial target of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria in creating the government at that lowest level
is to bring the people closer to the state government. In most cases even the
Local Government Area Chairman might not be as close and available at all times
but not councilors, because the structure already made it that they (Councilors)
reside with and among every other person within his or her constituency.
Meanwhile, I’m a councilor representing my people but I live
abroad is totally against the formation of the office. Like the police, you are
their friends. The people are looking up to you in different ways which might not
just be finance but all inclusive, especially those that stood by you through
the difficult days of campaign, rally and those whose kindness extended to
cash. Obligation has it that you show same concern to even those who voted
against you, and those who did not vote but stayed out of the farms or businesses
on the day(s) of the election. That is if you know any.
Edda is blessed and we must do all we can to lift her beyond
it present state, this is a collective effort of those in government and those
who are not. It’s unfortunate that people have seen government and politics as
the only place or means we can be of service to our people. No and not at all.
The greatness of a community lies in the hand of it people and those people
must not all be in government. There are so many communities in Ala
Igbo that have not enjoyed much presence of the government yet they are
heard and respected too. It will be wise if we can separate religion, royalty
(Kingship), Age grade from politics as these have always been there even before
the entrance of the colonial masters, no wonder they(colonial masters) accorded
respect and recognition to them during their time. Respect is reciprocal; it is
on this note that we can achieve our dreams together.
So, all hands must be on deck to the making of EDDA OF OUR
DREAM. Your field of endevour is the best government and your shop or office is
the best place to represent and defend this dream. You may not be there
tomorrow but let someone after you are gone remember that you were once there.
And to the elect don’t use this mandate to claim that
landed property that you know does not belong to your family or kindred rather
use it to settle that dispute that has lasted for ages and people prayed for
God’s intervention, remember their prayers have been answered by God through
your emergence as honourable. The reason is not farfetched, you will not be there
forever but your name can last for long. It is your turn today tomorrow will
definitely be theirs. Posterity does not erase foot prints and time is the
revealer of all truth so make it bold and sharp. Once again I say
Congratulations my brothers and sisters on the call of service.
Nde Edda this is my candid opinion, nuu kaa!
