After the Executive Council meeting exactly how it went by the Governor’s Chief Secretary……

This is the outcome of the Executive Council meeting held on the 14th
Day of July, 2017 at the Council Chambers. The Council deliberated on
various salient issues that affect the total well being of the people of Ebonyi State and took some decisions.

The Council received the report of the 7-Man Eminent Personalities
Committee set up by the State Government to look into the crisis
rocking the Abakpa Main market following allegation of horror,
atrocities and deprivation of liberty and evil conduct and the council
resolved as follows.

1. That following the intractable crisis rocking the leadership
of the market, the Council resolved that the leadership of the Abakpa
Main Market under whatever guise has been dissolved with immediate
effect.
2. The Council further appointed the Special Assistant to the
Governor on Market, Hon Peter Nwogbaga the Sole Administrator of the
Abakpa Main Market till further notice.
3. The council further set up a five man Exco committee to look
into the market leadership crisis and the membership of the committee
are as follows.
1. Hon Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and
Rural Development, Chief Barr. Samuel Okoronkwo---Chairman
2. Hon Commissioner for Culture and Tourism--- Mrs. Elizabeth
Ogbaga—Secretary
3. Hon Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Deacon Obinna
Nwachkwu----Mmeber
4. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security, Dr.
Kenneth Ugballa---Member
5. Special Assistant to the Governor on Market, Hon Peter Nwogbaga-Member
The Council further identified tenure as one of the major causes of
crisis in the market and approved a four year single tenure for any
leadership of the market which will be rotational among the three
senatorial zone.

Members of the Abakpa Main market were enjoined to maintain peace and
abide by the decisions of the Executive Council which is to their own
advantage as the state government shall not condone any form of
breakdown of law and order.
