Prescilia Ozeh among all is one example that is so scarce to come by. In a society where businesses like frying Akara business is relegated to aged mothers as well as perceived as unprofitable enough to take care of ones average need. Prescilia Uzunma Oze a native of Abiriba in Ohafia local government Area of Abia State has proven otherwise by redefining the process and ofcourse the result is uncommon. In Orgbor hill Area of Aba where she plies her trade Digital Akara is a common name and at a time young ladies and youths in general cry for lack of money Uzunma has carved a niche for herself.
Estreet Ontv Business visited her and she bared it all on her dreams and how she started with what she has, the challenges and her next step from this little beginning.
Can you tell us about yourself?
I am Priscilia Oze Uzunma by name a native of Abirirba in Ohafia Local Government Area.
Can you tell us what do you do for a living?
Hmmmm I sell Akara.
You sell Akara?
Yes, atleast that’s what I do for a living.
Of all the things you can lay your hands to do why Akara?
Hmmm, because I was asked to, any way it all started last year when I was asking God for what to do. After series of prayers I saw myself frying Akara, it wasn’t easy but finally here I am frying Akara.
Did you go for any form of training before you started?
No, I did not.
Nobody taught you?
Nobody, when I wanted to start. I started by telling people about it, so some of them that were into it started telling me what I needed to add to get the result and taste that I actually wanted. Which I practiced and on that faithful day people came around, my neighbors and friends came around to assist me. That’s how I started.
Can you say what they told you worked?
Yes it worked, it worked.
Can you tell us, what has been the response since you started?
Wow, it’s been great, I think, God has been faithful and he has been using people to surprise me including neighbors, family and friends. I must say God has been great.
What is so remarkable about God’s greatness in the business since you started?
The response has been amazing, I have people coming around to patronize me. I started with drum and firewood, one week after I started using gas and with the eye glasses am putting on that’s why the call it digital, when they taste it, it tastes different from others. Am not trying to say what others are doing is not good, so that’s why they call it digital Akara.
There’s always this look of excitement on your face, can you tell us why you are always excited and happy?
Yes, it’s God, it’s all about God and having passion to do it. I love doing it
Cuts in….okay, you love frying Akara…
(General laughter).
Yes!
Like every other business what was the initial challenge or was it easy for you?
No it wasn’t easy moving into another business, when the idea came I said I don’t want to do anything street business. So I was having challenges with that, one day someone came to me and said God told you something about Akara and you are there wasting time then I decided to go into prayers. It was after the prayers that I was convinced and started talking to people about it, and then some people were like why are you frying Akara, why do you want to fry Akara? Lots of challenges but I scaled through.
So how encouraging was your family in this your choosing line of business?
They were there for me.
And still there for you?
Yes... (Laughter), there were other friends who came and assisted me and they all surprised me.
Do we see you from frying Akara to any other kind of business?
Yes.
How soon is that going to be?
Next year?
What kind of business are you looking at?
Am looking at enlarging this business into catering service, maybe doing this one in the morning and other things will come later.
What is your encouragement to your fellow young ladies who complain of unemployment and lack of money here and there?
What I tell them is that if you are looking for work, when you bend down you’ll see what to do that will give you what you want. Most times I’ve told people that God cannot help you without a means, you have start something. It is when you’ve started that God can come in and increase it. I always tell people that whenever God ask you to do something try and do it. Stop waiting and shouting where will the money come from? Just with what you have and believe God and he will take you far. I know how I started with drum, fire wood and people were helping me to push my firewood in the fire and look at me God has blessed me with Gas cylinder and some other things, that’s my own words of encouragements to them. Anything you know you can lay your hands on start it, it could be bead making or any other skill you can acquire go ahead, some of the things they usually think doesn’t give money always give money just start and it will surprise you what you’ll become with it.
On this note, can you say the proceeds are enough for you to take care of your immediate needs?
I can’t really say the profit is enough or not enough because I know where am heading to but I can say for now is not bad, definitely with time I’ll grow but the basic is that I’ve started.
What is your word for the opportunity giving to you by Estreet On Tv to be viewed all over the world?
I really appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed by Estreet On Tv am really grateful and I know by next time you see me I must have expanded. I appreciate you God bless you.
