MY
OPINION
Ebonyi is one state in Nigeria that
is out to remain one through the effort of a political party. The state is
under the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their Governor is Chief
Dave Umahi. The governor has acquired a level of experience through these
offices. One time party chairman under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic
Party(PDP), deputy governor and now the executive governor of the same state.
The state under his Excellency Governor Dave Nwaeze Umahi has come to enjoy
what it can take beyond experience to achieve.
For instance, in the area of
infrastructure the state is fasting becoming a shadow of it past. Before now
when you mention Ebonyi as your place of origin no matter your clan, community
or local government you are referred to as onye ABAKALIKI. Today Abakaliki is
gradually becoming a reference point especially to some states like Abia and
others where poverty has taken over the mentality of their leaders.
During a musical performance by one
of the bands invited during the governors reconciliatory visit in Edda at Nguzu
Edda on Easter Sunday. The band leader maintained a line asking the governor to
come lead Abia only for one week;that if Umahi leads Abia , workers will
receive their salaries as at when due, Roads and street lights will be everywhere
in Abia. A tune the governor heard and was highly elated to the cheering of the
masses.
Few days after this visit was a
rally, now at Ejikeewu primary school in Ama Oso. It was another opportunity for
the Governor and the party hierarchy to meet with Eddans one on one at the
climax of the campaign rally that will give way to the Local Government election
in Ebonyi state tomorrow being Saturday 22nd April 2017 in all the 13 Local Government
Areas of the state.
People in Abia could be of the fear
and expectation that it might as well go the way of Abia state in last December,
where the electorates where asked to go to their various businesses while vote
casting was going on. It was quite obvious that it was not going to be an
election rather an arrangement to openly select the highly favored of the
government of the day.
The rally I attended on the
Wednesday 19th April was a sign that the people were speaking. Yes,
it was a possibility that they were mandated to be at the venue of the rally either
by the involvement of a town crier or any other means, but I didn’t see or an
atom of forcefulness in the process, yet the people responded and it was a sign
that they do more for the present government in Ebonyi state.
The people spoke in unity, from
those that climbed the podium to the mammoth crowd the level of unity was
glaring. If there was any form contrary to this, that probably will be in the
silent and will not be enough to stop the choice of Edda people.
Ejike Ewu Primary school field the
Edda central gather point was filled to capacity. If not that I was present, if
I was watching from the screen of the television I would have thought that MTN
has started sponsoring political party rallies but I was wrong. There were only
two uniforms visible in the crowd and that was PDP customized materials and
yellow vest branded at the back with MORE KAN BE DONE. The people believe that
more can be done. These are things that don’t just happen for there to be an
expectation for more means there have an introduction or promises made to
capture the faith of the people.
In the end of the gathering, the biggest flag was
giving to their son Hon. Barr. Eni Uduma Chima and we all believe he will come out
victorious in the forth coming Local Government election. We believe he will
not fail the people during the time he will be anchoring the ship of leadership in
Edda. From what the eyes can see the people are truly behind him, this is my
candid opinion. Edda is truly blessed. Nuu kaa!
