When the senator representing Afikpo
Federal Constituency has moved to Abuja. People thought that he could
create the highest legacy to remove the name: AFIKPO SOUTH from Edda and
thereby to restore the diginity of the Eddas. During the hey days of
(Rtd) General Ibrahim Babangida, the Late Dr. Akanu Ibiam had requested
that the Eddas be separated from the Afikpo speaking people.
The Eddas were not consulted and all of a sudden they were separated from the Afikpos and yet the annoying name of Afikpo South was slammed on them. On one hand, the Eddas felt a little bit happy, being part of the Ohafia speaking people, they liked the separations except on the name. NOW all hope was high since a man from Edda became a senator. BUT that HOPE is drying lean as the second tenure of the senator is running out. The expected LAND-mark is about to be dashed. HOW can these Ohafia speaking warriors continue to be called ''AFIKPO SOUTH'? Where are the diginity and the ego of the Eddas?
The WARRIORS' hands of the children of the Egbebu Atita Akpoku has grown limp. ALL the local governments of our brethrens are bearing the natural names except Edda. Have the WARRIOR become tamed? Let some members share this opinion to the senator. I have once sent message to him on this issue. I have once went to visit him to encouraged him over this and other issues but he ignored my visit. Who will do the Eddas this favour to remove this annoying Afikpo South as their name tag????????
