In Edda The smoke is Up In The Sky

Since yesterday the news is everywhere about the fracas between two brothers Ekoli and Nguzu Edda in Afikpo South Ebonyi  State.

You'll remember that since the misunderstanding that led to the killing of  three persons from Ekoli  in the early 2000 the relationship between the two communities Ekoli and Nguzu has not remained same.

Edda Magazine gathered from a reliable source that it all started yesterday, when Mr Kenneth Okoro aka MOKORO who was sent by the Local Government Area Chairman Hon. Barr. Eni Uduma Chima Ph.D. on emissary to inform the locals about the initial announcement made by the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi through the office of the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji who earlier said among other things and I quote
" *SPECIAL PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*

As part of measures to prevent spread of  Coronavirus in Ebonyi State,

His Excellency  has further directed Council Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, Coordinators of Development Centres and Town Union leaders are to ensure that the ban on burials, wake- keeps, social gatherings, marriage ceremonies, crusades, night clubs naming ceremonies, sporting activities and conferences are enforced in their domains, as contranventions shall be visited with stiff sanctions and the stakeholders above mentioned shall be held responsible.

All are advised to comply with this directive and to cooperate with the Anti- Coronavirus Taskforce posted to the various wards, Development Centres, Local Government Areas and  the state metropolis, as this measure  is taken in the best interest of the lives and safety of our citizenry." End of quote.

Mr Kenneth Okoro and others have  by the orders of the council chairman gone to Nguzu  to inform those who were preparing for funeral service of a relation passed the information and on their way back to Ekoli were attacked by unhappy youths whose anger was that after preparing for this event it cannot hold as a result of Mr. Okoro's information from the council.
And it couldn't end there, as they took to the road, blocked other road users with dangerous weapons like fires arms and matchets, and one of which affected an Ebo Trans bus whose driver is from Ekoli by name Agama Ewalu as well as a former Afikpo South Council Chairman by name Hon. Orji, Orji Mba who were on their way home,  enjured many while others ran for their lives.
At this point, Hon. Orji Mba could not hold it and decided to approach an Army Check point at Nguzu junction, while the Nigerian Army were coming to calm the situation met a heavily armed youths who began to shoot at the military face to face and at this point the army engaged the armed youths from Nguzu and killed two persons and as well took their guns, arrested some while others are still on the run.
Edda Magazine will keep you on the development. Stay tuned.
